Question:

I'm pre-pharmacy, what should I major in?

I was planning on majoring in Biology, but I heard that degree is not a good degree to fall back on. So I'd basically be screwed if I didn't get into pharmacy school. I don't want this to happen. How can I prevent this?

  1. A major in Biology and minor in chemistry would be good.

    The biology should

focus on clinically related subjects like microbiology, human anatomy and physiology, and genetics.

Be certain to take a class in finite mathematics, it usually only requires college algebra as a pre-requisite, it is very helpful in genetics and the subject of statistics.

This will make you qualified for a 1 year medical technology program that you could apply towards your last year of a 4 year degree, or you could consider a physican's assitant program.

What I do not like about pharmacy today is too many government regulations, people always trying to steal or rob the pharmacy, the lies the drug companies say, and the doctors who prescribe powerful mind controling drugs to both children and the elderly. It really is sorcery.

  2. Chemistry. Having organic and biochem will help you tons with pharmacology. But a chem degree by itself, if you don't get into pharm. school, is marketable. Especially if you get your master's (2 more years post-Bachelor's, usually). Biochem is pretty hot right now. But be sure to take at least several courses in biology, too, so that you have a good understanding of biological processes. Good luck!
