I ask this because my in-laws and my parents all say my dog needs to be out of the house when the baby comes in...for at least couple months they think that the baby's immune system won't be strong enough. We are coming from a different ethnic background so my family are so old tradional and it makes me frustrated cuz' they say it like it's THE TRUTH... my other friends who have babies have had their dogs around even after the baby came...theres no harm in having a dog around right? as long as the dog is healthy and doesn't pull anything on the baby...of course someone will always be around the baby so nothing should even happen..

  1. You can keep your pet around, lord knows my grandma is still trying to have me get rid of my cat and my daughter is a year old!!

  2. What a load of tosh!  You might find the dog a little harder to cope with when the baby arrives but that's about it!  Good luck.

  3. ask a doc?

  4. I grew up around a yorkie. The dog was about a year older than me when I was born. It won't be a problem. The only 'danger' will be the baby pulling on the dog and upsetting him.

  5. we have a yorkie too and dont plan on keeping her away from the baby.. it think it's better for the dog to be around right away when the baby comes home. I'm sure everything will be fine with the baby as long as you keep an eye on both of them when they're together like you plan on doing!

  6. i never heard of anything bad about having a dog around a new born

  7. We have 4 inside dogs 2 little ones and 2 big ones. I have a 3 week old as well and hes veryy healthy. I never heard anything about taking your dogs out of the house. Ive also had friends and fmaily that have had inside pets and babies and everything was fine.

  8. This isn't true because I had my son in January and as soon as I brought him home from the hospital both of my dogs were around and I have 2 big dogs. Also you won't find out if he/she has allergies to your dog if he/she isn't around, but more then likely if you don't or the baby's daddy isn't allergic you son/daughter won't be. I hope this helps and good like. You have to do whats best for you.

  9. I've NEVER heard of a baby catching something or getting sick from a dog. don't worry!

  10. Unless your dog is actually sick at the time, or has a habit of killing mice or other animals that carry diseases and bringing them inside (which some dogs do), there's no need to remove him from the home.  It will only make the reunion that much harder later, he will feel abondoned and territorial and be more likely to have behavioral problems when you bring him home.

Babies are alot tougher than we give them credit for, they are perfectly capable of resisting the incidental bacteria they come in contact with in everyday life.  Especially if you are breastfeeding.

We have a dachsund and he was introduced to the kids when they came home from the hospital, we never sent him away.  Of course you have to keep a very close eye on them in the beginning, and NEVER leave a dog (even a dog you trust) alone in a room with an infant, babies and kids are loud and make sudden movements that can scare a normally friendly dog.  Our dog has done wonderfully with our kids, and he never got them sick.  Household bacteria is just part of life, and it is actually important that children are exposed to it to start building up a healthy immune system (I'm not saying dunk your baby in the toilet and let the dog l**k his face, but there's no need to lysol the house top-to-bottom or kick the poor dog out)

  11. Poor little yorkie! Sounds like the grandparents are jealous of the little guy! That makes me sad think of how sad your dog would be if you treated him/her like that! (I'm picturing Lady and the Tramp)

  12. If our dog has had its shots, is clean, healthy, and doesn't climb onto the baby or attack it, (obviously, you'll be watching the baby of course), there is no reason not to have your dog in the house with you.

Children raised with pets are actually less likely to have pet allergies, NOT more likely.

  13. you can keep your dog around...cats are the problem

  14. kill the dog the end

  15. I have been reading about children acquiring allergies from animals ,dust ,pollen etc...etc... So if you want to be safe keep dog his hair and dandruff away for first six months!

  16. I grew up with a german shepard guarding my crib. I'm no worse for ware. As long as the dog has all his shots and is kept clean then there is no danger. No harm what so ever. Don't let your family get to you. They are just being overprotective. As your due date gets closer get your dog acquainted with the soon to be arrival. By having all the baby gear out and teaching him they are no nos. When the baby comes introduce them and just keep an eye on him while they are in the same room. Never leave any pet alone in the same room with babies, no matter how long you've had the pet. Everything is going to be fine. When my first daughter was born I had a huge Siamese cat, she was a furry thing and my daughter is 5 now. My cat was clean and had all her shots. So, don't fret. It's your home, your baby and you do what you want and having a dog and a baby is absolutly fine. God bless!
