  1. yes very

  2. Of course it's bad. I smoked during my 1st pregnancy and my daughter had breathing problems from 3 months up. She was diagnosed with asthma at 4. Could've been inherited from her dad, cause he had it bad, but it could've EASILY been the smoking too. I'll never know. It's hard to quit, but it's harder to watch your baby struggle to breathe.

  3. It is DEFINITELY bad. Smoking can cause permanent birth defects. Please think about your baby and ask your doctor on ways on how to quit smoking.

  4. I don't mean to be rude, but, YEAH it is really bad.  When you smoke your baby doesn;t get the oxygen it needs.  This can cause all kinds of problems.  Low birth weight, premature babies etc.

I know how hard it is, but you have to try to find a solution here.  What about talking to your dr about using a patch or try the gum?  You will still be exposing the babe to nicotine, but not the rest of the millions of chemicals.  Then work on that.  Get real and talk to your dr.

    Good Luck.

  5. its like this, depending on how much u used to smoke before u found out u were pregnant it may be bad for the baby to quit cold turkey. talk with ur doctor..if ur down to only 3 or 4 it is best to quit. try cutting out the after dinner or before bed cigarette first ( or whichever one u enjoy the most). anyways my point is when my sister was pregnant her doctor told her it would be unsafe for the baby if she quit cold turkey because she smoked alot and the baby would go through withdrawls and be all kinds of stressed out.

  6. I'm pregnant and I smoke.  Is that bad?  Well, YES!!!!!!

that being said, good on you for cutting down.....what that tells you is that you can do it!  You will never have such beautiful motivation again.

  7. YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!    IT IS REALLY BAD!!!!!!!

  8. Yes, it is really bad. You need to put your baby first because that is what mothers do. Everytime you take a puff of your cigarette you are taking one breath away from your baby and yes your baby does breathe in your belly. It breathes what you breathe. Please please stop. You want to have as healthy a baby you can. If you wont do it for yourself do it for your baby.

  9. IF U KEEP ON SMOKING  UR BABY IS GOING TO BE IN SPECIAL ED CLASSES

  10. i know a few people who smoked during pregnancy and their kid turned okay....but that doens't guarantee you anything. It's terrible for your baby's fetal and childhood health, and bad for you (but I'm sure you know that). You really need to work on willpower - try everything you can to quit smoking! If you know it's bad for baby just keep telling yourself that everytime you get a craving...it's time to starting putting your kid first, and this is a good way to start. Ask your doctor for advice...they'll have plenty!

  11. I started smoking when I was 14 and I had my first son when I was 19, he was 9 pounds 2 oz and 10 days late.  I did smoke while pregnant with him but I like you cut down to 2 to 3 a day, and they were ultra lights. I also smoked with my 2nd (7pounds 13 oz)and 3rd(8pounds 2oz) and they all are perfectly fine. None of them had any birth weight problems or learning disabilities. I know how hard it is to quit smoking I tried several times. Just cut down as much as you can and go to ultra lights. Good luck and I hope this helps.

  12. yes,

  13. yes its very bad your baby has a higher chance of coming prematurely, having birth defects, and having a low birth weight.

  14. I am a CCMA

You increase the chance of Pre term delivery, the baby's lungs being under developed as well as other vital organs and you are damming the baby to a life of breathing issues such as Asthma, Bronchitis, Pneumonia and COPD Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease which in turn can lead to death

Do not be selfish and think of nothing but yourself

    QUIT

  15. Of course there could be problems. I smoked when I was expecting, but when I started to get the 'butterfly' feeling and could feel the baby move around you WILL do the right thing and stop. Take care of yourself, eat well and rest.  The urge for a cigarette only last 45 seconds, then it goes away....and when you get the urge, take your mind off of it by fixing up the nursery, go out for a walk, bake a cake, take a deep breath, do whatever it takes to keep your hands and mind busy....

One thing to do (IF you do this) is get out of the habit of smoking in the house....IT WILL cause problems with ear infections (among other things) with the baby....I haven't smoked in the house in 17 years and you will be surprised to know that you CAN tell if anyone HAS smoked in a house...

Both of my boys are fine, neither one of them smoke....But I do NOT say this to make you feel that it is OK to smoke...your lifestyle, health, age etc  have a LOT to do with this...I was just VERY LUCKY...don't take a chance, you know what the right thing is to do

You CAN stop, its not as hard as you think when you feel your baby moving around....

  16. Stop smoking right now! I know how hard it is to quit, but you really need to! What if your baby IS born with birth defects? You will (and perhaps should) always blame yourself for it.

  17. If you truly felt okay with this, you wouldn't be writing in. You don't need anyone to tell you what to do when you already know the answer. I mean sure, your baby will probably be okay but why risk it?

  18. I am 34 weeks pregnant and have not completely quit smoking.  I went from a pack a day to 3 or 4 a day, and the baby is doing fine.  I know a lot of women who did not completely quit and they're kids are fine.  Not saying I condone smoking while pregnant, but as a woman smoker I understand how you feel.  I tried quite a few times in the beginning and suffered from severe headaches so I did the best I could and cut back drastically.  I smoked until the end of my first trimester with my son, who will be 6 years old in a few weeks, and he is completely healthy and fine.

I know it's hard and cutting back as much as you have is a great improvement.  Congrats and good luck!

  19. If you would smoke heavily during an addiction, the kid, when born may have a nicotine addiction and cry a lot.

  20. First of all, you know that smoking while pregnant is bad. And second, just because someone else smoked while pregnant and was fortunate enough to have a baby without birth defects does not mean that you will be as lucky. STOP SMOKING!!

  21. 3-4 is pretty good. I smoke a pack and a half a day, but during my 3 pregnancies, my Dr. suggested I cut back, and I went down to 5-7 a day. He said quitting could put stress on me, and harm the baby. The result? 3 big and healthy babies. So his suggestion benefited my children.

Also, asthma is a genetic disorder. Not something you get from smoking.

  22. When i found out i was pregnant...i quit cold turkey.

it sucked, but i found the will power to do it for my children!

YES it's bad for the baby. it causes low birth weight, premature deliveries, and even miscarriages.

you are sucking in CARBON DIOXIDE! the same gas that comes out of a car's exhaust pipe. that is poison. you are poisoning yourself, and your child right along with you.

not trying to lecture you hon, but you have to make a decision here. is your baby more important, or you next nicotine fix?

  23. To be honest with you...If u KNOW that cigarette smoke is bad for the baby then why isnt that enough will power to make u quit????

With my 1st before finding out i was pregnant, I smoked very heavily...1- 1 1/2 packs a day and if i didnt get my cigarette i would get so angry and moody but right when i found out i was pregnant i quit cold turkey because i knew that it would be a positive thing for my baby and that was the most important for me regardless if i was addicted or not...and since then i have not put one smoke in my mouth...regardless if the baby doesnt come out with birth defects u are depriving your baby of oxygen...just think everytime u put a cig in your mouth your baby is breathing in less air and more smoke..and seriously, how does that look, a pregnant lady with a big ol baby putting a cig in her mouth,,,do u know how many people will degrate you and stare u down for that..It just does not look right...If it matters to u then u will quit regardless. It is never too late to stop and this is the perfect opportunity for you...

  24. of course...

    here is 10 reasons why

    1.Placenta Abruption

This condition is where the placenta pulls off the wall of the uterus either before or during labor, necessitating an immediate delivery, usually via cesarean section. A smoker’s placenta is thinner, making it more susceptible to an abruption.

    2.Placenta Previa

Again because of the smoker’s thin placenta, it is more likely to cover the mouth of the uterus, the cervix - placenta previa. This can cause bleeding during the pregnancy. It also makes vaginal birth dangerous and a cesarean becomes necessary due to the risk of hemorrhage of mom and baby.

    3.Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)

Babies born to mothers who smoke are more likely to die from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

    4.Preterm Labor

If you smoke your body is more likely to try to end your pregnancy sooner by placing your in premature labor in an effort to protect your baby from the harmful side effects of smoking. The problem? Babies born even slightly prematurely have a greater risk of death and other complications. The sooner the baby is born, the more likely you baby is to die or have serious complications, including mental retardation and cerebral palsy.

    5.Stillbirth

Smoking during pregnancy increases the risk of your baby dying during your pregnancy.

    6.Low Birth Weight

Birth weight is an important factor in your baby’s health. The smaller the baby, the more at risk for many problems. In fact, low birth weight is one of the top reasons for babies to be ill and die in the first months of life.

    7.Colic

Recent studies show that if you smoke your baby is more likely to have colic.

    8.Respiratory Infections

If you smoked during pregnancy or if your baby is surrounded by second hand smoke, your baby will be more likely to be ill, have asthma and other respiratory problems.

    9.Premature Rupture of Membranes (PROM)

Your water breaking too early is another risk of smoking in pregnancy. It can also lead to premature birth.

    10.Miscarriage

If you smoke, you could have trouble staying pregnant. It can also decrease your fertility.

DON'T GET PREGNANT UNLESS YOU CAN BE RESPONSIBLE!
