I'm preparing my first time to be the main photographers for a nightclub in 2 weeks. Any tips to keep in mind?

I'm preparing my first time to be the main photographers for a nightclub in 2 weeks. The events will last about 3 hours long and my duty is to walk around and take pictures of all attendees. Any tips to keep in mind while shooting? A little nervous because there aren't any backup photographers. My main concern is not knowing what mode I should be shooting in ie: Manual, Shutter, or Aperture. I understand I can be up to 400 ISO at a nightclub without noise or a little higher if noise is not a serious concern. Also, need to know what's the best way to judge and adjust my SB800 according to the constantly changing lighting inside the club?

Here's the setup I am bringing:

-Nikon D70

-SD 4GB Extreme III CF, 512MB CF for backup (Shooting in Raw for both cards)

-4 Fully Charged Camera Battery/ Battery Grip ( I will have batteries charged behind the DJs every time I switch out a battery)

-Nikon SB 800 Flash with 8 NiMH batteries and 2 pack of AA batteries for backup

Lens:

Nikkor 50mm F/1.8 (Main Lens)

Nikkor 18mm-70mm F/3.5-4.5 (backup)

Also need help with Lens Suggestions, I can rent lens from a local camera store if the ones I have are not suitable for night clubs

whats the gn of the sb800?

say its 45, i would shoot 100iso, wb 5500k, for shots of people 2 meters away shot F22  - (gn45/22=2meters),

for shots of people 1 meter away use f45

    for 4 meters use F11

    et cetera

use a flash bracket or anything that gets the flash off camera,

if the above is greek to you just use auto

  3. Your 18mm-70mm should serve you the best in this circumstance. If you do not have a flash bracket I suggest purchasing a Gary Fong Light Sphere. Here is an example I took during a reception using the Light Sphere
