Question:

I'm quarantined in my Cabin on this Cruise Ship...?

We paid $750 per person for a 7-Day Cruise. It's my first time. I got a little seasick on the first couple of nights, but that subsided. I got a little diahrrea either from the food on the buffet, from something I ate, or because the fancy food didn't agree with me. I tried explaining that to the Doctor, but he can't get past the stubborn fact that I might have the stomach flu, and he's keeping me in here in case I infect other people, aside from the fact that I only have diahrrea. I don't have any of the other symptoms... What am I supposed to do in a small, dark cabin, when all I got is the TV?

  1. I suggest that you go see the Doctor every 4 hours, make a pest of yourself.  Then when you get back home, go see a doctor right away so you can get a second opinion and have more legal basis to demand that they refund your entire cruise fee.  I would not settle for a partial refund.  If you caught the  virus it was probably from something on the ship and thus they are responsible for you being ill.  Also, make sure that you get and keep copies of all of the medical procedures done on you and the charges for them.

  2. The Norovirus (aka Norwalk) is highly contagious and can quickly spread throughout the whole ship.  The doctor has every right to quarantine you.  Surely you have read the "headlines" when 200 or more all come down with it on the ship and everybody wants to sue because they were quarantined.

You can be quarantined up to 48 hours (or more, under certain conditions) until your symptoms pass or until it is determined that you do not have the norovirus.

While I can understand your disappointment with missing some of your cruise, you must understand that the ship has a couple of thousand people to protect.  They don't want to have an outbreak.

And, you would NOT have been quarantined unless you displayed common symptoms of the virus.  They don't quarantine you for being sea sick.

  3. Looks like you're stuck for the time being. You should be okay in a day or so and the doctor will have to release you.

  4. id definitely demand a refund.. and if they say no call a lawyer about you're rights.

  5. You will need to stay in your cabin for now.  After two days you should be released, but unfortunatly you may have contracted the Norovirus.  The Dr. can not take a chance with this.  Some cruise lines may give you a credit for a future cruise (not 100%, but something) if you talk to the guest relations manager.  They are available at the front desk just by calling them.  But other than that you should stay in your room.  Everyrtime you come out they can resent the 48 hour clock and you may ruin your WHOLE vacation.

  6. they don't quarentine for being sea sick. For the time being you just need to stay put.  They do not want an outbreak of that norvo virus. You will feel better and the doctor will let you get out of your cabin. good luck.
