  1. Just say you've got a lot going on in your life, your appreciate their help and that you'll take their teachings with you in life.

  2. Say

"Thank you for the time and effort that you have put in to training me in Karate for five years. But I think that it is time that I moved on to a different sport/style/hobby but I have enjoyed the time that I have spent here and will hopefully come back later on down the line."

  3. Just tell them that you are taking an indefinite break in order to pursue other interests. They will understand.

  4. If instructors have learnt anything from teaching it's that maybe one in a hundred will last more than 5 years and one in a thousand 10 years or more. The "lifers"are rarer still.

I dont think they will be to upset and you have a lot of good suggestions already on how to proceed.

  5. "Thank you for your time, consideration, insight and instruction" maybe?

It sort of depends on whether your teacher is dedicated to his/her discipline or just running a business.

DON'T FORGET TO BOW OUT OF THE DOJO!!!!!!

  6. Thank you for working with me, and helping me find my potential in athletic ways.

It's been a great learning! *shake hands* I'll be sure to follow your words.

  7. Well, tell them the reason that you're quitting, be very respectful and thank them for all their time and effort in teaching you.  Its tough for an instructor when a student quits after so long of training, but things come up and sometimes you have to.  Just be as polite and respectful as you possibly can.

  8. can't you just not show up at the gym for a month?

  9. Say I'm quitting Karate to take MMA

  10. Be respectful, tell them you appreciate their time and training, and that you are going to pursue other intrests.

And don't forget to continue to practice the basic skills that you learned. They can save you one day.

  11. Thank your instructors for their time and effort. They will appreciate it. Bow to the instructor and the dojo and leave.
