i hate it , seriously, is it just cos im from indian background?

MY FAMILY ONLY THINK 2 THINGS IN LIFE ARE WORTH ANYTHING:

breeding.

and working.

where's the fun? whenever i say "I love you!" to my friends (in non L*****n way lol) my parents sneer, because they've never had friends like that. my mum says nasty things about all her friends behind their back.

some quotes from my family:

grandma: when your 24, you will finish school, find a nice boy and have some babies.

mum: of course you'll have kids.

family friend (indian): i feel sorry for couples who don't have babies.

i just want to tear their heads off. i want to go travelling around the world with my best friends and my future husband/boyfriend. im never going to "fall in love" when putting up with my family.

when im 24 ill just be told to hunt for a well breeded man to have babies with. it sickens me. it really does. maybe ill kids, who knows. maybe not.

what should i tell my family from now on?x

  1. tell your family it should be your choice if you want to follow the indian tradition.

  2. Well guess what, when you are 24, you can do what you want because you are an adult. In fact you can start as soon as you hit 18. You don't have to listen to them.

  3. the indian culture, like so many obsesses about "family"...

kids, grandkids... parents stopping work and being looked after by the working kids...

have fun, live your life.... ;)

  4. when i was in my mid-2o's and all my mid-20's relatives were getting married and having kids around me, my parents did quite a bit of comparing and pressuring. when i hit my late twenties and most of these same relatives were getting divorces left and right, dealing with custody battles, money issues, etc., my parents stop comparing.

your folks were raised to certain beliefs that they have every right to embrace for themselves. you, however, don't have to embrace these beliefs. and don't do so if it's just not you. tell them you appreciate their advice and will take it into consideration. and then do your own thing.
