I'm in the middle of the book October Sky, my summer reading book. At the beginning, I remember being told what a D.A. is, but I don't remember. It keeps coming up in the book, and I tried to go back and find what it means, but I can't find it. Is there anyone that really likes the book and knows what a D.A. is? I'd appreciate it!

An example of a line it's in:

"Roy Lee rubbed his head, chalk dust sticking to his lacquered D.A."

  1. It's his hairstyle, i think when it's all greased back and stuff, I absolutely love that book it's amazing, this is going to sound really corny and everything, but it actually inspired me! (That sounds really nerdy! i was inspired by a book with some guys who wanna build a space rocket!) no seriously though it is really good.

  2. When I grew up, a certain hair style was called a 'duck tail' because it was, indeed, longish hair lacquered into a point at the back.

Perhaps in coal country they called that style a 'duck a@s.'

  3. i read the book and liked it. a D.A. is a Duck's A**
