I need to know the point of the story, the punishments used in teh book's society and the setting and time and place of the book. I just can't seem to get into the story yet. I need to know this by tomorrow.

  1. I think the Giver is the reflection of the author's fear that in the future people will be nothing but robots who have lost the capability to not only love, and hate, and have emotions, but also to think for themselves.

The point of the story is to get people thinking about how much power we give our government and wither we pay enough attention to how they are controlling our lives. If we aren't careful we could end up opinion-less robots who do what we are told because we don't realize that their is another way.

    The setting is futuristic.

This is just my take on the book, and I don't actually know if this is what the author meant when he wrote the book.

It's sad and funny and scary and it's an amazing book.

    Good luck!

I hope you did read most of the book, though!

If not, try it again sometime after you have read the stuff on the links - it really is an excellent book!

  4. hellooo! Sparknotes!!  http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/giver/

  5. go to sparknotes. com but this is an EXCELLENT book, and not too long....I highly recommend you read it.

It's basically about a controlling government that tells you who you are supposed to be and when you are supposed to be "released" euthanized/killed, but it's so much more than that.  If you've seen the movie pleasantville or read the book 1984 they all follow the same ideas.  Goodluck.
