I'm reading the Scarlet Letter and I was wondering if the punishment for Hester's case of adultery was actually done in those days

  1. I don't know if was or not but it seems plausible to me.

    BTW, when I saw your lead question my first thought was "I'm sorry."  I hated that book. :(


  2. I imagine so. Hawthorne had a good understanding of the Puritan lifestyle, as his grandfather was at the head of the Salem Witch Trials, so most of the things relating to the Puritan lifestyle are probably accurate.

    Have fun with the book. It's one of my all time favorites. Nathaniel Hawthorne was a genius.
