I'm really angry with this?

I viewed a house other day to rent and they told me that because i've only been in my new job for a month I may need a guarantor. I'm 29 for gods sake! I don't want to be asking parents as the whole point of moving out is about independence. Im cheesed off about being treated like a little kid.

  1. either ask your parents or go back after you've had your job for longer. they just want to make sure they get their money. It's not about you, its about your qualification.

  2. If you were a landlord you would understand why.

I live in Charlotte, which is a pretty big city.  During college I had 3 years worth of rental history.  When I moved here I rented from a large apartment complex....they told me that since I rented from an individual instead of a "real business" I would need a guarantor and do a double deposit, even though my credit score was over 700 and I had a car that I had for 2 years, in my name, perfect payment history.

Yup...I wasn't married yet but had to get my Dad to co-sign.

I tried looking around b/c I originally thought that place just wanted money but ran into the same thing no matter where I went.

Now as a landlord, I understand why.  It is so freaking hard to evict someone you wouldn't believe it.  Those requirements look like a cakewalk compared to what I require.

Once you've been ripped off a few thousand...you learn.

It's not you....it's everyone that came before you....remember that.

  3. You aren't being treated like a little kid, you're being treated like someone who isn't stable in thier new job yet.

Landlords must be careful with who they allow to inhabit their property, and this is part of a qualification process.  It's not personal, this is how a good landlord processes EVERYONE.  Knowing that they are this careful with thier property should give you a sign that they are a good and attentive land lord.
