I'm really curious?!?

Everytime I pick up my gerbils and put them back in their cage , they become very itchy and start scratching their ears with their foot. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Why do they do that?

that's weird, mine have never done that. you should call a vet, maybe they have mites or something.

smell of nailpolish?  ask your vet...mine have never done anything like that.

you probably tickle their ears. or idk, they have little bugs that bite, i suggest taking them to the vet.

You are probably displacing their fur by handling them and they are just making an effort to get it all back in place as soon as possible.  You could ask a vet just to rule out anything else that might be irritating them though.
