some sort of GFI circuit breaker between each battery?

As much energy as a tank of gasoline, plus fire for sure, and acid spill and toxic gases created. Have they crash tested any of these? I'm not putting the full knock on them, I'd like to have one for commuting to work, when the price makes it economical.

  1. That's why they always put the battery packs as close to the center of the car as possible where it is the most protected.


  2. I could find crash test specifics on all-electric cars, but here are the results for the top five hybrids.

    Over the next few years, the safer NIMH and Lithium batteries should become cost competitive with lead-acid batteries. I'd get a hybrid now and wait on a plug-in model.

  4. Well I know with the volt, the battery is in it's own case. And it's also in the center of the vehicle. For it to get damaged it would have to be a very severe crash...
