I'm renting a car and only want to pay for one driver even though there might be two?

Basically my question is, if I will be renting a car and I only put my name as the driver, and if I let my friend drive it for a bit and we do happen to get pulled over or something, what are the consequences? Just want to know what I will be dealing with. I'm 24 and he's 21. I already have to pay 25 a day extra cuz i'm not 25. What are the costs to add another driver?

If he gets in a wreck and makes it on the police report, you are both screwed with insurance. If you both will drive, just pay it and save a big headache later in case something goes wrong.

Registering both drivers is important in case you either get a ticket OR if you have an accident.  If the non-registeres driver has the accident, you are the one who will pay everything, and any insurance on the rental is voided.

I would call your insurance company, most of the time your insurance cover covers you as the driver, and his will probalby cover himself as the driver.
