I am a 23yr old female who got 'drafted' to run a 10k for the upcoming Fargo Marathon relay team formed at my work. 10 weeks ago, I ran maybe 3 miles A WEEK, with my dog. By no means a 'runner'.

I have worked up to about 15-20 miles a week now, longest so far at one shot being 4.25 miles. My goal is to hit 5 miles by this Sunday, and 6 the following Sunday. I am NOT a fast runner.

I basically want to finish the 10k without dying or cramping up up super bad. The race is May 17th, or 16 days from today.

Basically I am looking for encouragement. What is your WORST 10k time? Any stories of struggle that eventually leg to success?

Plus, how big of a loser will I look like if I have to stop and stretch a pesky muscle mid-race?

Thanks!!!

  1. My worst 10K time was 52:02. My best was 47:18. If you have to stop and stretch, then you have to stop and stretch. No shame in that, and better to stretch it out than to keep running and potentially hurt yourself. 10K isn't as bad as you think. Pace yourself, exhale on the left foot, inhale on the right, it'll help prevent cramping. Stop and stretch if you have to, and don't be afraid to slow your pace down. You'll be fine! Good luck and happy running!

  2. my worst was 37:22.24  my fastest was 37:22.24
