I know this is weird, but i just became vegan a few weeks ago and I haven't tried tofu yet. I'm scared it will be nasty even though it apparently has not taste, it doesn't look very appetizing.

Also i don't know how to cook it. Is there any great recipes out there that will help introduce me to tofu? what brands are good?

thanks a bunch

  1. allrecipes.com or any cooking show has their own website. soft tofu is great in spicy Korean soups....hard tofu can be cut to small pieces, fried, sauteed and spiced up to your liking. it is healthy and adds texture to a lot of dishes without adding flavor. try it!

  2. I'm scared of tofu too! its not nice!

  3. If you don't like it you don't have to eat it.

Eat it raw with some ginger and soy sauce, it's delicious!

  4. Any Japaneese grocery store has vegetable infused fried tofu, it is excellent if you warm it up and dip it in soy sauce. No need to cook it

  8. being a vegan is hard....you may return to meat.  try kraft's website or googling some stuff for some good recipes

  9. Tofu contains good cholestrol and some protein. Try it out with a veg sandwich.

  10. Try it at a professional restaurant first.  It's actually pretty good.  My Korean friend made me some and it was great.

  11. tofu is soya bean extract so there is nothing wrong in eating it.If u love spicy food then what u can do is---- cut some onions saute them in oil add some chopped tomatoes, some finely cut ginger green chillies, add salt to taste some red chilly powder or currypowder.let this cook slightly now add some milk say about 3to 4 table spoons add pieces of tofu or crush it with ur hands add to this mix well garnish with fresh corriander leaves

  12. i bought extra firm last time and i really liked the way it came out. i drained it well (leave in drainer, put paper towels over it and cans of something on top of it), then chopped it up and threw it in my stir fry!

i also like to get the soft one and break it up and scramble it with soy sausage, cheese, peppers and onions and have scrambled "eggs" for breakfast.

i don't know much else, i'm just introducing myself to tofu too!

  13. Tofu's very bland, but it's nice when it's friend and has a slightly crunchy outside to it.  It always tastes better in sauces or marinades.  It's great in curries, soups, pasta dishes, stews, etc.

  14. my mother just nukes it

you could also look on the internet for recipes

i am not sure what are the good brands

if you think it looks kinda gross don't look at it when you are eating

  16. learn to cook it right and it is great! almost like a cross between swiss cheese and bread (with out dairy!). and you can spice how every you like it! i mike mine spicy, but i have made sweet tofu before too, just depends how you marinade it.

  17. If you don't like Tofu, why eat it? There are plenty other great sources of protein. Try nuts.

  18. Tofu is lovely! I was really nervous about trying it at first- but now I am hooked!!

    Some good recepies/ books:

    The big book of Tofu

    Betty Crocker.com

    Nava Atlas (a-maz-ing!)

Tofu Chilli is delicious- just type it in google.

You don't know what you are missing!!

  19. It is an intimidating ingredient. I have a cookbook called  "This Can't Be Tofu". It has all kinds of recipes.

  20. i think it tastes yummy... dont worrie about ut hun.. i would try putting it in rice...it is delicious..! =]

  21. Its great in Miso soup! Yummmy.

  22. when you cook with Tofu add spices to it then it will not taste bland.i use tofu in stir frys. and stews.

  23. fear not! personally i love it.try it, it won't kill you  and if you don't like it, don't eat it

  24. I know tofu doesn't look good but when its prepared properly its really good! If there is a pei wei near you or a pf changs they have an amazing stir fry there that you can get with tofu. If you can't afford to eat out Annie Chun makes all natural noodle bowls and soups that have tofu in them. Try those first then if you like it you can add in additional tofu. Another thing I really like is boca burgers they are really yummy, especially with relish and ketchup. I'm not even a vegetarian and I eat this stuff. Also another favorite of mine is Trader Joe's Chickenless Nuggets. They are so yummy! Remember to get enough iron and protein!

Good luck and good for you to become vegan! Its a lot of work!

  25. try this recipe: http://www.asianonlinerecipes.com/tofu/b...

  26. Tofu, also called bean curd, is actually very delicious, if you cook it in the right way. Try frying it, or steaming it. When cooked properly, it feels soft and smooth to eat.

If you don't know how to cook it, try eating them at Chinese or Japanese restaurants. Some restaurants cook it with different ingredients, and the tofu looks and taste different from what you think. If you are afraid of how it looks, cut it up into small pieces and mix it with your food. The taste of your other foods will overcome the tofu's taste, and you don't realise its blandness.

Try it, and tell me whether it works or not.
