Question:

I'm searching for a hip/joint dog food. Any suggestions?

I DO NOT prefer Science Diet. My bully has always eaten Canidae or Wellness Core. I'm trying to find a holistic type of dog food that aids in hip dysplasia. He is on supplemental pills but I would also like a dog food with this added supplement. Does anyone know of one? I found Breeder's Choice Active formula but I do not like the ingredient list and will not use it. Thanks.

  1. If you can find it, I would think Orijen 6 Fresh Fish would offer a lot of joint support & it does have glucosamine & chondroitin.  All the salmon and fish have a lot of EFA that helps with inflammation also.

"Fresh salmon (includes chinook. coho and sockeye species), salmon meal, russet potato, herring meal, fresh lake whitefish, sweet potato, fresh lake trout, fresh Northern walleye, freshwater cod, fresh herring, sunflower oil, salmon oil (preserved with mixed tocopherals, a natural source of vitamin E), sun-cured alfalfa, dried sea vegetables (brown kelp, Irish moss, dulse and bladder wrack), leeks, psyllium, crab shell, rosemary, lecithin, apples, black currants."

  2. Innova Large Breed Adult "contains glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate, naturally occurring compounds that promote healthy joints and cartilage"

All the Orijen foods contain glucosamine.

So do the Wellness Core foods.

    And regular Wellness

And all of the Merrick dry foods except Puppy Plate.

Also, raw chicken feet are an excellent source of glucosamine. Check your grocery store, butcher shop, or local ethnic food stores for them.

  3. Since you care about what you feed your dog (as proven by what you are feeding him), you will probably understand that you are not going to find a food with the supplements you want it it.  I suggest checking out http://www.naturesfarmacy.com/store/inde... to find some of the best supplements on the market.

  4. PMI Exclusive has a food for hips and joints my Vet recommended it

  5. If he is on a glucosamine supplement, I don't see a reason for a dog food with it.

If you cannot find a food with it whose ingredients you like, there are plenty of brands of treats that have it in them.  I think one brand I saw at the place I get my dog's food from was called Hip Flex.
