Find out what policies you want to sell, find a carrier that has your line, ask for a contract. If you are licensed, you should be getting offers from various sources.

This would depend on what lines you want to write.

If you want only life and health, they are a dime a dozen. If you want to write P&C, that's a horse of a different color.

For life and health, you can call your state insurance commissioners office and get a list of companies licensed to do business in your state. Contact as many as you want to order their recruiting kit. Compare them and make up your mind on which ones to represent. Submit the paper work.

For P&C, it's very difficult for a neophyte to get contracts. If you've been in the P&C business for awhile, you might have a chance, depending on loss ratio experience, and how much business you have on the books.
