Question:

I'm selling cloth diapers to someone across the country, she is going to pay me by pay pal, can I get scammed?

I listed them on Craigslist. She is going to pay me w/ paypal. I am new at this whole thing. She said she couldn't find many people where she lives that do cloth diapers. It's not much money apx $60. Not worth scamming in my book but it would be my luck. Is there anyway I can get scammed by doing this if she pays me thru pay pal and if I do how should I do it? I've been checking other question & answ and people say do certified and insure. What do you think.

  1. make sure the payment clears before u mail it. I would most defiantly send it certified to make sure they get it and don't come back saying they didn't

  2. Your first responder is correct ... your second isn't.

You do not need to send it certified for proof of delivery.  What you need for proof of delivery is delivery confirmation ...  The difference between that and certified mail is that DC is MUCH cheaper.

If your buyer says they didn't get their package, and you have a DC number that says it was delivered, then PayPal will side with you.

Your best bet is to do the mailing through PayPal.  You can pay for the shipping and print the shipping label all through PayPal.  Some people buy fancy labels for this purpose, but I just print it out on regular paper and tape the edges to the package.  And the shipping is cheaper when printed out online.

But if you decide you'd just rather do it all at the post office, make sure you save that delivery confimation number.  You can enter the DC number on your buyer's payment page by clicking the "Add Tracking Info" link.  That will save you a lot of trouble if there is a dispute over whether the package arrived or not.

And yes, make sure you ship to the address that comes with their payment.  Not in the "notes" section .. make sure it's in the "ship to" section.

Don't worry ... there are very few PayPal users who are looking to scam someone.  She's probably just looking forward to getting those diapers.  PayPal has a pretty bad rep ... but that's mostly from people who haven't been careful.  You'll be fine :o)

  3. Make sure you send them to the address that is associated with her paypal account.

When you send them, do it in a way that gives you proof of both mailing, and delivery.

  4. make sure the payment clears paypal first, then mail - insured is usually a few dollars more - make sure you have delivery confirmation though - they sign upon delivery -

yes you should at least try to do this through paypal - it is VERY HARD to find cloth diapers where i live also - and i found ALL but 1 dozen of my diapers on craigslist.
