I'm seriously interested in learning how to make handbags, however I don't know where to begin?

Should I go to an art school? Are there any handbag design classes? Also, I am a journalist with no fashion design experience so I will be starting from scratch, but I am very interested in just designing and making my own handbags. Can you give me some ideas?

Around my area (Melbourne) I know they run courses to learn how to make handbags, but usually you need to have basic sewing knowledge - you can always get a friend/relative to teach you a sewing machine if you don't know how, then i would check the net for some courses. i think you really get more inspiration and feedback as a beginner doing a course, and they're pretty fun too.
