I think I'm bipolar, anyways my moms just playing it off as if I'm a hypochondriac, and I'm just going to use it as an excuse to throw fits. Anyways I'm thinking about calling my doctor myself tomorrow and making an appointment, because I'm really scaring myself anymore.

Can I do that?

& do you think its a stupid idea to make an appointment?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, my mom has always made doctors appointments for me and stuff.

  1. yeah you can...

  2. yes.

but then again youd be under your mothers insurance and certain things need to be consented by an adult... so technically...yeah, you can. but cant go to an appt by yourself.

  3. yes you can do that just as long as you have medicare number that will be in they wont ask any questions i say if you feel this was then go for it !

  4. yeh you can

  5. Absolutely! See if one of your friends can take you. Instead of a doctor's office, you can try counseling, which is probably what your doctor will suggest.

    Good luck :)

  6. This is a real gray area.

There is nothing to prevent a doctor from treating you; however, you have a few obstacles you might face:

    1.  Persons under the age of 18 can not enter into legal contracts except under specific circumstances (I believe the term is "necessities"..essentially food and shelter but can include other things depending on state law).  Why is this important?  You could get treated, but if you don't want to pay for it, you don't have to.  Many medical facilities will not take this risk.

    2.  If you require medical treatment and have complications, the medical facility can get sued if the treatment was not reviewed with the parent of the minor child.

    3.  The insurance company may not allow you (as a minor child) to authorize medical services.  Similar to point 1, you are a minor child.  The insurance company may have a provision that they don't have to pay if the services are requested by a minor child without an adults consent.

So can you make an appointment?  Yes.  Will the doctor see you?  Maybe/maybe not  Minor children are seen all the time without parental consent.  It is going to depend on the doctor.

  7. You can absolutely do that.

The fact that your 17 now works in your favor because you're almost an adult and they know that you think maturely.

When I turned 16 the doctors even told my mom to stay in the waiting room because they wanted me to speak for myself.

Make it and if your mom doesn't want to take you then ask to speak to your doctor over the phone and explain things to him/her.

I'm sure the your doctor will help you.

Good luck and I hope things work out great for you.
