I'm just wondering if this is a bad decision, i've never played before and i don't have cleats but I don't want to join and invest in cleats and quit...like i'm afraid b/c of my size i won't be of help to the team anyway...

  1. Scrum half. The Irish scrum half, whose name escapes me, must be a foot shorter than most of the team.

  2. Yes it's called wing... doesn't matter how small you are you just have to be hard. so harden up girl....

  3. if you consider your body type, then your way to success will be shorter. But if you are not looking for success and you are looking for some fun, enjoy it. in the other hand your hard work provides you the best condition even if your body is not fit to what you are going to do.

    good luck

  4. You can be a fly-half or scrum-half (or perhaps winger) if you are skillfull. As for the "small" part, you can work out.

  5. There are plenty of positions.. if you're a larger girl you can play a hooker and if your lankier you can try out for the wing position.

  6. hooker or wing for sure

any other position will depend on your skill level

and yes womens rugger still has scrums!

  7. One of the main advantages of height is that you weigh more  and still have good speed however if you have good feet you don't need to go through people you can go around them or you can play one of the positions that that requires less power eg scrum half or out-half . By the way that irish scrum halfs name is Peter Stringer who looks so small because he always stands between two second rows he is actually 152cm (5'5)

  8. Height doesn't matter as long as you can play the game well. If you try hard enough, it shouldn't make a difference

  9. I'm only 5'3 and play winger, where I haven't found size a problem. Our scrum half is only 4'10 so I really wouldn't worry about it at all, you just have to be tough, and muscle/bulk is more use than height. Often height can work against you - we have a girl on our team who is 6'2 and incredibly fast, but when she is tackled her height unbalances her and skilled tacklers can take her down a lot more easily than someone like me because my centre of gravity is much lower. Just go for it!

  10. Wing, or maybe hook (do you still have scrums in women's rugby?)

  11. yes many !!!!!!!!!!!

  12. your best bet is probably scrum-half, however as a beginner it'll probably be pretty difficult to start playing at such as specialised pos.(if u do start playing scrum-half u should definetley get a ball and practice ur spin pass) i wouldn't really think being a winger would fit your build either as thts where most of the teams pace comes from and being short i wouldnt have thought u'd be terribly fast either. Most hookers are traditionally shorter but tht really depends on u, whether u are strong enough for forwards play.

  13. You could be a tight end, or a full back...just kidding if you play hard and have some skill I think they will let you play.  Good luck...

  14. i know plenty of girls that are as small or smaller than you.  you could be a hooker or on the wing- if youre fast enough the big girls cant catch you!!  get a cheap pair of soccer cleats to start with and that way its not that big of an investment.  you can find a decent pair for 30$ or less.  it takes all sizes to play rugby.   ive seen of the biggest girls brought down by the littlest!

to be honest, playing rugby has been the best decision ive ever made.  it has given me so much confidence and led me to life long friends.  its more than just a sport- its a lifestyle- get ready for tons of fun

give it a shot- youll love it!!!

    good luck
