  1. practice everyday, first day take it slowly and as you progress go faster.

when is your tryouts and mile?

  2. you will be fine! all you have to do is start practicing the mile now and you will get it by the time tryouts roll around. if they are coming up quick start by practicing running two miles and then the 1 mile will be easy. volleyball is a cardio intensive sport so getting your lungs in shape now will definitely give you an edge over those girls who haven't been keeping in shape

  3. Practice running!

  4. Well we have to do the same thing. Here are the things I do that help me get an exact 8 minute mile (we just got timed yesterday, 8 minutes exactly lol)

    1) DO NOT START OUT RUNNING FAST

Alot of people will start out in a dead sprint, but you build speed up as you go, so start with a slow jog, and as you go pick up the pace.

    2) DONT TALK DURING THE RUN

Alot of my friends like to have chit-chats while running. That takes breath and energy, two things that will help you increase your speed

    3) SPRINT THE LAST 100 METERS

This may seem hard,  considering your going to be tired by the time that comes, but it helps take seconds off the time, which could help if your cutting it close.

    4) TAKE BIG STRIDES

Dont take 10 little steps, instead take 5 long strides. This is saving energy and your covering more ground, which means less time =]

**Start running on a treamill or outside beofre tryouts ahead of time. This may not seem like it will be getting you in better shape, but it does. Try to run a mile without walking. Then try to run it without a slow jog. Or try to get under 10 minutes, 9, 8....etc.

If you start to get out of breath, dont start breathing faster! Try to slow it down a little bit. This always helps me.

And lastly, wear good running shoes. And make sure you wear good socks to prevent blisters. Bring lots of water and wear light weight clothes, nothing form-fitting. Hope this helps.

  5. I dont have a solution to your problem just saying that is FRIGGIN STUPID you have to run a mile in a certain amount of time for VOLLEYBALL tryouts!!!!! That has NOTHING to do with your volleyball ability! you may need to like transition but you dont need a WHOLE lot of stamina! if you ask me ur coach is an idiot!

  6. find a running buddy to run with before tryouts and while you run the tryout mile try to run with somebody that is close to your speed but will help you run faster.

  7. I could almost walk an 8 minute mile. For a young person, no sweat.

  8. Just relax and at practice run the best u can, and if the coach ask y u didn't make ur 8 min. tell them u tried to the best of ur abilities because coaches like when u give them ur all.

  9. Don't stress.  If you have a lot of time until the run, run progessively more every day.  Also, try to run in the morning, it is very good for your body.  If you are old enough, run to the store to get groceries and stuff.  Don't tire yourself into an injury, but don't baby yourself either.

  10. it is only for a couple of days... from the third onwards you will run a mile in 8 min... all the best... your ribs need some time for getting flexible to inflate while breathing heavy ...
