I went on a date with my crush this summer, so I thought this school year would be great. Well, yesterday I went to registration and found out there are new rules. We can't carry purses whatsoever anymore unless they are clutch purses w/ no straps! I have to carry my inhaler, kleenex cuz of allergies, and other things I need. And we can't use ipods anymore in study hall or anywhere during school! And if we do, they get taken away for ten days! The cell phone rule used to be that if we were caught using a cell phone, it would be taken away for the rest of the day and that was it. Well now if we do we get it taken away for ten days right away! So many people got yelled at for these things last year. This one girl had like 4 cell phones in her purse (some didn't have batteries)! And her purse was the size of a backpack! Once she really pushed the limit and took 2 purses!! I mean, who would need to carry 2 purses?? I am soooo mad at those people! They ruined those privilleges for EVERYONE!!!! There are new rules for public displays of affection, so I'm not sure if bf/gfs can even hold hands in the hallways! Maybe I'm being a drama queen, but I really don't like these stupid new rules! And it's all because of a bomb threat one year! Someone said there was a bomb, so of course they had to check it out to be sure. Well, of course, there was no bomb. That's when they got the purse size limit rule, but now we can't even carry purses with straps!! I'm sooooo mad about this!!!!

  1. I am sorry you have to go through this - I am 35 and I am so grateful that I am not a teen now - you have to deal with so much more than we did.

I agree - it is not fare that you can not carry a purse - umm- at least one week a month I know that I don't want the whole world to know what I am carrying in my purse - we all (girls anyway) have it, but don't care to share the event with others, right?

At my nieces school, they had a bomb threat as well, and after that, they had to carry clear back packs..is that an option? Maybe you could get your parents involved.. zero tolerance can sometimes be taken to the extreme. Maybe you could get a petition started and meet with the school board.

On the other hand, I agree with the no Ipod, cell phone at school. Sorry. You are in school  to learn - you are in school with the people you would be talking to on the phone. Friends outside of school will just have to wait. Parents need to get in touch with you during school? The office has phones and a receptionist that can take a message. Ipods are just a distraction.

Holding hands should really not be a big deal. Pecks on the cheeks, lips as well. But tonsilectomies in the hallways, well..

Unfortunately, rules have to be made for the masses. There are always going to be rules that we don't like, and many of them are made because one or two people can't act mature, or responsible. Pretty sad. I hate to sound synical - but get used to it, the real world works that way alot.
