Question:

I'm sorry...........?

When you receive an apology, do you expect that the person understands HOW they hurt you? Or is the fact that they know THAT they hurt you enough?

This is a debate that my friends and I have been having, and I thought I would get some more opinions.

Keep in mind that this is an apology between adults, not children.

  1. They need to understand "how" they hurt you in order to prevent it from happening again.  If they are truly sorry, it won't happen again.  However, if it happens again after making them understand, that is an entirely different matter.

If it happens again, that person either has mental issues or wants to hurt you emotionally or socially.  Don't discount the former.  There are many mentally unstable people around; especially in San Francisco!

  2. I have actually told some one that I understand I hurt them, but I don't know how, but to tell me so I know for next time.
