  1. 1)provide cash incentives for car pooling or pay for bus or subway passes for employees to get to work

    2)place lights on timers so they go off at certain times or at least half of the lighting goes of to save power

    3)provide recycling bins for paper,aluminium cans,glass etc and the money made from the bins goes to employee party fund win win for both

    4)typical drop heating temp by 2 degrees and increase cooling buy 2 degrees

    5)change lighting to more energy efficient bulbs

    6)sponsor an "adopt a road " clean up in the community

  2. eat greens

  3. getting people involved and feeling 'ownership' of the new schemes is important. why not ask the workers what they think is important?

    quick basic hierarchy of effective measures; reduce-reuse-recycle

    obviously energy saving is key, simple things like;

    making sure the heating and air conditioning are not fighting each other by wrong setting of thermostats;

    involving people to think of areas of wasted energy like not setting computers to go on standby after a few minutes inactivity, and obviously, turning stuff off when you go home;

    adopting a 'jackets off' policy in summer and turn the cooling down.

    car shares, bicycle friendly buildings (proper sheds and showers) and company buses can all reduce transport energy.

    invest in green electricity? it doesnt cost that much more than regular suppliers, and i'm sure a big company could get a good deal. how about a 'company' wind turbine off site, with opportunity for workers to buy in? that could turn a lot of people right onto the whole low carbon energy scene, with knock-ons in their personal lives.

  4. The idea to buy less from Big Box Stores. The idea to reduce factory out put of non essentials like new computers plastic bags, that sort of thing. The idea of The Human Right to Peace which could free up resources and people for the company as well as to prevent degradation of The Environment through warfare if this right became part of The Constituition.

    To reduce spending  on dvds outside of working hours,have Peace Bonds for Employees with incentives to promote the right to peace , have Employees own a share in the company if this has not happened then have them pool funds with employees of other companies to purchase Green Power.

  5. Here are a few of the things my company has done:

    "Remember these are made from trees" stickers have gone up near paper towel dispensers and the like.  (these just makes me laugh)  see http://thesecomefromtrees.blogspot.com/

    Paper recycling bins at every cubicle for daily use, and recycling boxes at every kitchen station - for paper, plastics and glass.  They also have signs up describing what can be recycled.  Non-confidential paper with just one side printed on is set aside and made into free scribble pads. (Y'know, when the printer randomly spits out 12 pages of junk?) They also collect used cell phones, dead batteries, and old computer equipment to send to the proper recycling places.  (If you make it easy, people will do it.)

    Freecycle Day!  Awesome fun.  Everybody donates stuff in they no longer want, and on the designated day there's a free 'yard sale' where you can pick up items other people have brought in.  Large ticket items can be put aside and raffled off, raffle tickets are given to people who donated items.  Leftovers can be donated to charity.

    Office Depot has a 'Green Catalog' for their business accounts.  Nearly every office supply has an equivalent 'green item.'

    Bike to Work Day - it's technically 'bike to work one day this week' to allow for bad weather.  Prizes for the department with the most bikers, or for those with the most miles.

    Hope these help!  Good luck.

  6. There are tons of ideas but I have always seen success when a company starts a car-pooling system. If it is company run and there is organization people will be likely to use it. They will also be likely to use it for their OWN benefit because they can save money on gas. Any idea that benefits the people utilizing it AND the environment is a good one.

  7. reduce  paper  consumption by  doing  more  on  computers

  8. How about stressing efficiency in the workplace.

    If everyone gets more work done then you can get by with fewer people, run fewer computers, get by with less office space and therefore save money, energy and enhance the company's bottom line.

  9. I thought the Green movement hated big business
