I'm 13 and I am playing Volleyball for my school. School starts in about 3 weeks (September 3rd.) I just want to start practicing bumping and spiking. Also, I need to just start getting in shape. I am thinking I'll run and do squats. Anything else that you suggest I should start doing for 3 weeks. It would be nice to thin up a little too. Thanks! :)

  1. work on a lot of things with your form,

try not to run to much, because it works the wrong muscles. for instance, if you tested a persons verticle before they ran a mile, and then measured their verticle again after running, the inches would slowly decrease.

try standing next to a wall on one leg, and jumping up 10 times, on each side and switch legs every 10 times.

also try work outs that work your abs.

if you've ever heard of v-ups, they're a great way to work your abs.

    if you dont know how,

you lay down on your back, and basically try to touch your toes to your finger tips but remember to keep your neck up and legs straight.

good luck for your tryouts! :)

  2. Well you should try to do core exercises.

Start by taking a nice jog to warm up the muscles, then you should do 25 crunches, 25 bycicles, 25 side crunches on each side, 10 v-sits, and boy holds/planks.....it will kill at first but trust me it helps!

Squats are good, but when you go up jump up and do a block!

  3. Stair laps!!!!!! i am going into eighth and i played volleyball last year and this year, and we ran 10 stair laps a day everyday!!!! they work!!! and so do push ups, we had to do 10 pushups every time we missed a ball, and we did wall sits for 5 minutes!!!! just sit agaist the wall like you are sitting in a chair and just stay there. it REALLY hurts but really helps.. and wall jumps. do about 100 of them a day!!!!! they help your spiking.

    GOOD LUCK!!! and have fun

    VOLLEYBALL ROCKS

  4. Man! You are lucky that school starts that late. Mine starts August 25th!

Cycling--on either a stationary bike or actually riding a bicycle.

Bleacher jumping--literally, find a set of bleachers or other raised (solid!) surface and try jumping on them, landing with both feet (20 reps). Then jump landing on one foot (10 reps each foot). Remember to use your arms to bring you up higher! Please don't try to jump on something TOO high. If you do that you could obviously hurt yourself. You could also try running up bleachers.

Get a buddy!--Really, it is so much easier to get into shape and into volleyball with a partner. Pepper some (passing with a sequence of bump, set, hit). Try some passing drills or play one-on-one! You can really mix it up here.

Get off the couch!--If you have an exercise ball, bounce on it while watching TV. It may seem like you are doing nothing physical, but it really helps with your core and legs. You can also try extending your arms (almost like a blocking motion in volleyball) to get an extra boost.

    Hope this helps!
