My mother in law wans a group page for the family. But she's very computer illiterate. I offered to do the setup for her group, but I want her to manage. I just need to make sure the group manager can be changed to her after the group is started. Thanks :)

  1. the answer is yes- however I think you're confusing e-mail with appointing moderators and owners, but here's both :)

    e-mail change

go to this link- http://groups.yahoo.com/myprefs click add email address on top left- follow steps and confirm address.

then go to this link http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups click edit my groups on the top left- locate group (if there's more than one) under the column Email Address click the arrow for the drop down box and select new address- click save changes

How do I remove myself as a group moderator/owner? How do I make somebody else the group owner?

  2. Yes.  You can start a group using her information as if it was her actually starting it.  If she is not already registered with Yahoo, she would need to be by your side to give you  her personal info when registering for a Yahoo account.

After your have started her group in her name, you will need to join the group.  Then go to the group site using HER user id and password. Go to your name in the Members list, click edit located underneath your name and make yourself an owner and save changes.  (There can be several owners) .  This way when she gets stuck on something and you are not at her house, you can go in under your name and fix whatever.  After she has caught on as to how it all works, you really really should remain an owner in case something should happen to her. Otherwise the group could not be managed in all aspects.  I advise you to stay on as an owner.  If you made yourself a moderator, there still are features that a moderator cannot access/change that are available to the owner(s).

If you want to start the group in YOUR own name, do so.  Then get her registered with Yahoo and let her join the group.  Then make her an owner.  You really should stay on as an owner for the reasons above. If you don't want to, you can edit your group membership and make yourself a member, then even leave the group if you wish.

I think you are very brave to do this for her even if she is computer illiterate or not.  ;)
