I need to get some money!!! I dont have credit to get private loans and my parents make too much for me to get government loans or grants (although they are not helping me with school, I still have to claim them because I live there). I have a scholarship that pays my tuition only. However, my books uniforms, fee, etc are looking to be over 2500 for the upcoming semester alone (not to mention 4 bucks a gallon to drive back and forth!)!!! Is there any other safe, legal way to get money for my school?

  1. With no other options for loans, your best bet is to now apply for scholarships.  I have heard repetetively that www.fastweb.com is the best site to use for scholarships.  however, you will never, NEVER, have to pay any money to apply for scholarships, so be careful and don't be conned.  Ask your school if they have any loan programs for people in your situation.  Some colleges have loan programs to assist people with bad credit, and the loan is issued by the school directly.  No guarantees, but it is worth a shot to ask.

    Best of luck to you!!

  2. There are two sources for student loans -- the federal government and private lenders. In order to obtain most federal student loans, you will first need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In most<!--instances the FAFSA is required for all federal financial aid including federal student loans. Deferment options are available while you are still attending school at least half-time.  There are four main federal loan programs.

Federal loan consolidation is for students who are in repayment status or parents who wish to extend the repayment period on their current PLUS and obtain a fixed interest rate for the life of the loan-->you can combine all of your eligible federal student loans into one loan with a Federal Consolidation Loan. Consolidating also locks the interest rate you pay on your loan.
