I know papers, plastics, aluminum cans, glass bottles, stuff like that... but a bit more specific like milk cartons... Yogurt containers... at which point do them become non-recyclable?

  1. There are certain numbers that can be recycled by your town. Contact your city/town hall.

All potentially recyclable materials will have a recycle symbol with a number 1,2,3,4,5 in the middle. So if they say #1,2, and 5 can be recycled, look for these numbers.

  2. contact your municipality or recycling contractor on what they take for recycling no sense putting in stuff they don't/cannot take

  3. Don't recycle anything that contained anything toxic.

  4. Hello Jenny J:

Check with your waste removal company, they should have a website with guidelines for recycling. Ours is http://www.sanitation.com/recycling_easi... . They just recently added the multi-layered food boxes that non-dairy (soy, rice, etc.) milk and juice are packaged in can be recycled.

Plastics need to have the triangle symbol with a number inside. No one can reclaim "#7" stuff, so avoid buying stuff packaged in "#7's".

    foam cannot be recycled.

    Keep on recyclin'

  5. packaging (like boxes from microwave meals), glass bottles, aluminum anything, yogurt containers, toothbrushes, toilet paper cores, bills and mail, newspaper, milk jugs, plastic containers, etc.

A compost bin is good for food scraps, coffee grounds, tea bags, egg shells, vegetable peelings, etc.  Mix it with leaves and newspaper and you will have good organic soil for your garden.

    Good job!!!
