I'm still confused about the blu-ray issue...I have two flat screen tvs and know nothing about blu-ray!?

I've heard a lil here and there but I need to know what kind of flat screen will support blu-ray

Any TV can play blu-ray - even a non-HDTV can use a blu-ray player.  However, to really take advantage of the added resolution blu-ray movies support, you really want a HDTV capable of 1080p.

Blu-ray players can also play DVDs and upscale them, so you're not being forced to abandon your old movies.

Expect plain old DVD to be around for quite a long time.  If you recall, VHS was around for a long time even after DVD became the more popular standard.

The resolution of blue ray DVDs is 1080p. If you have a TV with that resolution, that's what you will see. If you have a TV with 720p resolution, you will still see the blue ray DVD picture. It will just be in the lower resolution (720p).

If you don't have a 1080p resolution TV, getting a blue ray player will be kind of a waste of money now. The prices will go down over the years and the amount of content (available movies) will increase. Also, if you watch a 32-inch HDTV from a distance of more than about 10 feet (15 feet for a 40-inch), you won't notice the difference between 1080 and 720. The human eye simply can't determine the difference in resolution for that screen size at that distance.

any hdtv that has either HDMI or hd component inputs will support blu ray. If you have a 1080p hdtv then that will be even better as the native resolution for blu ray is 1080p but 720p will work just fine too

Blu-Ray player will work just about any TV. Although it is intended for use on HDTV's most likely that is what you have it its a flat screen, either LCD or Plasma most likely. It is a high definition disc. You will be amazed at the quality of a Blu-Ray player when it is hooked up to an HDTV, especially on movies like Cars, Ratatouille, Pirates of the Caribbean. I suggest going to a Best Buy if you have one nearby, most of them have a display set up showing Blu-Ray on a HDTV it you will be amazed at the quality.  

Another great thing about Blu-Ray players is that they can still play your old DVD's and they will look even better than they do on a regular DVD player. your existing DVD player will NOT play Blu-Ray Discs though.

The only issue right now is that they are a bit expensive, $300 and up, but hey my first DVD player was $300.  You might want to go check out a display in a store to see for yourself, and probably hold out on buying one for a few monhts to see if the price goes down.
