I'm almost at the end of my unemployment and I've been trying everywhere to find a job including fast food. I've been following up with employers and checking the unemployment office for jobs and I'm hearing the same old song and dance.I can not go out of town to look for work as my husband works 2 jobs;(1 good paying job and a 2nd job part time) and we only have 1 vehicle. The area where we live at the employment rate is very slim so I feel like I am being stuck. Before you start criticizing me that I should go out there and find a job,Which I am trying to do.I have to work around my husbands work schedule and we can not afford another vehicle.I would love to go back to school to get a degree. It's pretty obsolete since we are living paycheck to paycheck. The last resort is moving but I don't want to disrupt my husbands good paying job and his 2nd job.

I'm out of options and I honestly don't know what to do..

Please,No rude comments about my unemployment..I lost my job from downsizing

  1. Depending on where you live, some states have a program known as "Workforce Investment" that can be accessed through your local unemployment office.  They provide training and sometimes provide money for school or even extended unemployment benefits.  They also offer excellent job search resources.  See if your state has this program.

Another option would be to work as a temporary employee through an agency like Manpower, Volt, Kelly services, etc.  You can let them know the hours and days that you'd be available and they also provide some training.

Best of luck to you and I hope your situation improves soon.

  2. Hi,

Have you considered using the online job websites?  In this day and age, you can search and apply for jobs (from many different sectors) online.  Online jobs lists are often more up-to-date.  In the UK we have Guardian Jobs: http://jobs.guardian.co.uk/ and Monster: http://monster.co.uk/ as well as many others.

If you're living in the US, I'm sure there are reputable online sites advertising jobs there too.  It will save you a lot of time and money applying online.

Perhaps, it would help if you joined a recruitment agency.  They will help you to find work that suits your skills, experience and qualifications.  Also, why not seek help with your CV (resume as they call it in the States).  This can really increase your chances of gaining employment.

    Good luck.

  3. Well it doesn't seem as though moving would be a good idea because of your husband's good job and there is no reason for him to give that up.  Have you looked into any options where you can work from home?  Try looking up the employment security commission in your state and they should have some legit websites to look at that offer working from home.  You can be a telemarketer or do data entry and you can pretty much pick your own hours.  But I would try that.  Hope this helps and good luck to you.

  4. I had the same problem except I'm not married. I had just gotten out of high school  and my aunt told me to hit the road. I had no license no car and no money and every one I knew was having a hard time too. Gas is high and a lot of places were I live are closing. Like factorys like were two of my friends worked. Well anyway to the point. I was lucky enough to have a good friend that let me stay with her. I found work that I could do from home on the computer. the first one job that has been great and one that I just do for extra whenever I have time. they arent those crazy scams make 1000 dollars in just one hour or anything like that.    If you are inerested in working from home and have a resonabley good computer than email me and I will send you details.

  5. you poor woman!  Did you look into maybe doing something on the internet.  or maybe Avon?  Something along those lines where it would be easy to work around your husbands schedule.  I used to do "partylite Candles" and made quite a bit of extra cash and you don't even have to pay for the starter kit up front here is the link http://www.partylite.us/

No I don't sell partylite any longer I just know from past experience it's a fantastic company to work with

  6. So sorry you're in this situation, it is really demoralising I know. The only other thing I can think of is to canvass employers with your CV and a covering letter, the idea being that you may hear about a job before it gets advertised and there is loads of competition. Do research using the net or the yellow pages for companies that do the kind of work you are interested in and send them your information, it's even better if you can do this in person so that you build contacts and make friends in the right places. Remember that you may need to do this repeatedly.

Also ask everyone you know if they are aware of any jobs going where they work.

You could try recruitment agencies also to get the ball rolling.

Remember that you didn't lose your job because you were no good and try to be as positive and upbeat when job hunting and interviewing as employers could spot your unhappiness and make assumptions.

Also, where possible get a friend or soomeone to check you applications and CV to make sure that there are no errors, if you need help writing one try www.nextstep.org.uk to find your local nextstep advisor (they helped me write my CV) and if you get turned down ask for feedback so that you can find out what you're missing or doing wrong.

    Best of luck
