I want to get the word Forever written on my bicep, which symbolizes "Forever Italian." But, I have a small portion of irish in my family. Also my last name is DeSimone, which the name of origin is Italian. Would it be stupid not to incorporate irish in this tattoo, because I live more of an italian lifestyle in my family rather than irish.

  1. Do you know how many people have Chinese or Kanji symbols who don't have a drop of Asian blood? If you're mostly Italian, and that's the part of your family you relate to, then by all means it's not stupid. My boyfriend is getting a symbol of him being Polish even though he is only half Polish, because that's the part of his family he feels more connected to. I certainly feel more of a connection to one side of my family genealogy than the other. You might be a poser if you were getting a tattoo to symbolize Italy just because you thought it was cool and your great great grandfather was part Italian. But if you're mostly Italian, go for it.

  2. That doesn't matter. If it means something to you, do it. Even if you were .002% Italian.

That should be a really cool tattoo.

    Hope it all works out.

    :)

  3. I think it's a great idea no matter what you do. Show your heritage! :]

  4. No, I don't think it would be stupid. Part Italian is still Italian right? Just be 100% sure it's what you want though. ;)

  5. I think its ok. You dont have to be 100% anything to be what you want to be, all you have to be is 100% sure that you want that tattoo.

Whatever makes you happy is good.

  6. Are you getting forever in italian "per siempre" or something like that? I think that would be a lot cooler. Maybe thats what you meant, but I wasn't sure.

I think it doesn't matter that you aren't "full"

If it is important, and symbolic to you and your life, than go for it!

  7. It is up to you.  Obviously your Italian heritage means munch more to you and it is quite alright to be proud and display only your Italian side.  I also agree with the suggestion that you should get "Forever" tattooed in Italian.

  8. Being whatever percent irish shouldn't matter, it's how you live and who you are and you are Italian!!!

Rep that to the fullest and you don't ever EVER need to explain yourself.

  9. But then people will think you're a guido.

  10. so what if you're not 100% italian. at least you are italian. I'm more lithuanian than italian but im most proud of being italian. just go for it.

  11. no one gone kno  that u got irish unless u tell them like u just did

  12. Actually, if you plan on getting a job anywhere they pay a salary it would be smart to not get a tattoo at all.

If you're just bent on this idea, try airbrush tattoos first.  If you don't like the design, it'll wear off in a couple months.

  13. If you don't live in Italy then don't get one.

  14. represent whatever heritage you want, its your body, its your choice, I am half dominican, and half irish/german... and I have an entire taino indian sleeve (indigenous people of the dominican republic)

  15. Sounds kinda like a boring tattoo, but I think you are overthinking the whole thing.

You can always get another one, or add on if you decide you want more later.

  16. I don't think it's stupid. Do whatever makes you happy! Especially if you practice more of italian life style.
