Question:

I'm stuck with a Math question? Algebra 2?

5 (y+4) = 4 (x+5)

My work:

5y + 20 = 4x + 20

What do I do now? If I subtract the twenty from one side, do I subtract it from the other? But what if that leaves me to 5y = 4x? Please, help me. When explaining it to me, be to the point and be clear. Thank you.

  1. yea, you move the twenty to the other side and it's 20 minus 20. It leaves you with 5y=4x and then x= 5/4y  OR y=4/5x

  2. Hi...u r correct. The answer is 5y = 4x. You can also write it as y = (4/5) * x. For any value or x you can have a value for y which is just (4/5) * x.

    For x = 1, y = (4/5) * 1 = 4/5,

          x = 2, y = (4/5) * 2 = 8/5 and so on.

  3. Yes, subtract 20 from both sides.

    5y=4x

    Solve for x; (5y)/4=x

    Solve for y; (4x)/5=y
