I take the test in 2 weeks, I bought the book and it includes test and such, but I feel over whelmed. are there any sites that could help me break it down into words or examples that I might understand better. I'm definetly a hands on learner, just reading something doesn't seem to be working for me.

  1. Good luck my boyfriend went to school for that and his job made him take online classes for it and such and he still failed.... if u do not know much about the market u should wait to take it and learn more about its a very hard test he said....

  2. Hmmmm....may I ask why you are studying for the Series 3 exam?

If you have any market knowledge, the exam itself is quite easy.  But, if you don't know much, I wonder why you are taking this exam.  Are you going to be a commodity broker?  If so, don't you think you should have some kind of background in the markets so that you have something to offer your clients?  Maybe you should just put off taking the exam until you begin to get a good handle on things.

First, you should subscribe to the Wall Street Journal or Investors Business Daily.  Also, go to your local Borders or Barnes and Noble book store, go to the magazine section and pick up copies of Money, Futures, Active Trader, Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities and other investing and trading related periodicals so you can at least begin to understand the jargon.

As far as the book you obtained for studying the exam, memorize it from front to back and you should at least be able to pass.  I think you only need a 70% to pass, and the exam is really not that long.

    Good luck!

  3. I took the series 7 test, I had a video on my computer that I could look at. Maybe you can find something like that?

If I were you, I would get an overview of what you know, and what you need to study further. Then make a list or mind map over those points and break them down into small tasks. ie if you need to know more about hedging, you break them into main points of currency, interest, commodety, etc.

then you have something to go after, and can search the internet etc.

I would also plow through wikipedia, investopedia etc, to get an overview. So that you know how things work, and have a good understanding.

    Good luck!

  4. Ggoogle Series 3 Exam Prep or classes...you'll come up with many good resources.  If your firm want's/requires you to be commodity licensed than they should be willing to pony up for the test prep class(es) or at least offer to repay you on passing the exam.  PEACE & GOOD LUCK!
