  1. 1st off get a student pass for the trams and regional trains. You can get it at Bismarckpatz. I think it's called semesterkarte. This will give you unlimited access to Heidelberg, Mannheim, ludwigshafen and much, much more. If  your like to bike or drink wine. Take a trip up the Roemer strasse, the old roman street. It's marked by little forts and castle's along the way. Using the train system is great advantage. Get a bahnkarte to get an extra discount on your fares outside of your region. I would void Munich altogether if your not going to Oktoberfest. It's too hard to figure out what they're saying have the time. Munich is a huge city and has some nice scenery, but so does Austria. It's much better and Wien (vienna) is a beautiful city. Definitely visit Prague and Budapest as well. Again all these places can be reached by train. You can also head to Berlin, Frankfurt and Stuttgart.

Cafe Gecko's on bismarckplatz has the best mojitos. hands down.  The Chinese place a few doors down has the cheapest and best food. The prtions are generous as well

Heidelberg is a beautiful city- don't forget to explore it.

  2. You must go to Fussen, in Bayern...it is where the castle is that cinderella's castle was built from.  And it's gorgeous!  Cows with bells, the Alps.  can't get much better!

  3. Hard to answer that as it depends on a lot of different facts and on your interests be a bit more specific so we can be a better help.

  4. The trains have a lot of good deals if you know what to ask for and you don't mind taking the slow trains. You can get a Baden-Wurttemburg pass for about 25 EUR, which allows you and four or five other people to travel anywhere within BW for the day on the slow trains. Also, there are Schoneswochende passes that are similar but aren't limited to the BW, and are only good for the weekend.

All of the Lander have passes similar to the BW pass, so, for instance, if you want to go to Munich, you can get a BW pass, and then when you cross the BW-Bavaria border you can buy the equivalent Bavaria pass.

It's a great way to get around.

As for things to see, it depends what your interests are. I really enjoyed Munich, hiking in the Black Forest, and finding castles to explore.

Also, your university may offer group trips occasionally, through an organization such as Studentenwerk. These would most likely be packaged bus tours, but you could always sign up for the cheap bus trip and hotel and then take off on your own exploring if you don't like following a tour guide. You can get really good deals by going on group trips. I went to Berlin for a week for 150 EUR (the train ride alone would have cost me more than that).
