  1. I think it's fabulous! The open wheel drivers that have come over to NASCAR seem to finally be mastering stock cars. I think Hornish and Franchitti will get stronger as the season goes on,too.

  2. Well I am pleasantly surprised to see a new face on the pole.  But cautious as well.  He hasn't exactly had a stellar season so far.

  3. I don't think he would have been able to pull it off if there hadn't been a rain delay. I wonder where he will finish the race?

  4. Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!! but sorry to say he will head straight to the back of the pack

  5. I'm shocked as well and a bit ticked off. I was grinning when Bobby Labonte got the pole but that grin disappeared when Carpentier beat him. It's not that I hate Carpentier, I was just wanting Petty Enterprises to get another pole. I hope Labonte has a good car on Sunday and has a good chance of winning.

  6. I Love it whenever a Dodge leads the pack

  7. surprised?

heck, it didn't have anything to do with rowdy or junior so why is it surprising that it was hardly mentioned on here?

it was pretty cool and i'm glad for him - he really pushes hard and comes through when it counts - in qualifying at least.  going out so late and when the track was cool really helped him, but still, he pulled it off.  and it couldn't have happened to nicer guy.  seriously.  i don't think i've ever seen a guy so happy all the time, both in english and in french...

    ;-)

  8. before you make that statement about the owners thinking they didn't make a mistake, wait till at least the middle of the race.   He could very well move as fast from first to 30th as KyBusch move the opposite last week.   Does "front row joe" mean anything to you?

  9. i did! i said congrats on my loudon question! i'll say it again.

Congrats on winning the pole patrick!

  10. Winning the pole is almost meaningless. Let's see where he is 50 laps into the event. What does it say about all the teams with deep pockets, a ton of resources, and the talented drivers with years and years of experience when they get beat for the pole by a rookie on a mediocre team?

  11. Not knowing all that much about Mr. Carpentier, I am still impressed, but....we all know that starting #1 doesn't mean finishing at all. He is obviously not just a flash in the pan, but results are much more important than pace lap position.

  12. who cares? open wheel drivers suck compared to stock car drivers. go nascar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! danica who????????????

  13. Oh man I was so impressed! That was awesome. He always has a smile on and it was happy to see him THAT happy!! He was waving to the fans and everything. It was a great surprise and I just hope he can run up front Sunday...I was happy for him.

  14. It was a great run, and he said he left a lot out on the track, meaning he had more to give but didn't push it. He is so much fun to watch on camera. He has a great personality. Here's hoping he can finish the race well on Sunday.

  15. Oh Yeah thats Cool, although I don't think the line up is gonna end up meaning a lot.  Then again who knows.  huh?

  16. I was pleasantly shocked.

  17. Well, all there is to say is congrats, he may be qualifying good all year, but being pole each start, don't mean hay, when you end up almost dead last each time......this is true.

and open wheel is fun to watch, and Nascar is the best, but the open wheel guys, can drive like the wind also.

World of Outlaws Fan, now and forever........they are great also.

  18. I saw the rain delay, so I assumed it wasn't gonna resume... and now that you mention it, O_O Carpentier?! Labonte?! Riggs?! Harvick?! Wow.

Poor Marcos missed the race =(

  19. Good for him

  20. I think the entire Top 10 qualifiers were pretty impressive...some really unusual ones up there this weekend...should be a good race.

  21. Well I just got here so I'm glad you brought this to our attention. Patrick Carpentier has been one heck of a qualifier this year. Out of all the open wheel guys and I have said this from the start he is just like one of the guys in the garage not a foreigner like some have been. Good job Patrick Carpentier!!!!!!!

  22. no big surprise. the go or go homers practice strictly in qualifying trim for ovious reasons. everyone else practices primarily in race trim during that first practice to try and get a jump on everyone else for sunday, when the laps count.

  23. I thought that was good for him now he will be able to be in the Bud Shoot out. I think he is going to do well in Sprint Cup.

  24. It was good for Patrick.  Too bad he'll drop like a rock in a pond when the green flag drops.
