I'm surrounded by so many stupid people and I can't stand it?

Why are there so many stupid people in the world? It seems like there are so few people that I can actually relate to. Everyone just follows popular culture which encourages stupidity. I hate the society we live in. Where can I find people that aren't so dumb? I'm in college and I would've thought that I'd find smart people here but all I've found is a bunch of stuck up, preppy rich kids that only care about partying and wasting their parents' money. Uggh I hate my life.

How do you stand being yourself, that was some of the most self centered pap I've read here in awhile? You sure the shoe isn't on the other foot and people feel that way about your attitude towards them, must be pretty lonely on campus for you. Anybody has something to offer to others, trick is to see what it is, if you dislike what you see, then move on until you find like minded folks. May take you longer with the standards you have, but I'm sure there are others out there who feel the same as you do. Jeeeze!

Don't hate your own life. Get the most out of your education, then work to educate the stupid, if they want.

Most people think that they are right about their own lives, their own intelligence, their own moral views on life, etc. There are probably people out in the world who think you are stupid for going to college. DON'T LISTEN.

Continue your education even after leaving college. Try to learn something new every day. Use your common sense.

Become the best you can be. Open your mind to alternate possibilities in the world. Use some compassion, also, when dealing with people who aren't as learned as you.

I am in the same situation at my college.  I am definitely going ivy league for graduate school.

Yours is a great question.  When did it become cool to be dumb or uninformed?  People in some of my classes just run in fear from the idea of doing well. They don't want to stand out in this "negative" way.  What's more is that they laugh at the people who sit in the front row, like me, who want to be engaged and really learn.

My advice is, of course, not to hate your life.  Embrace the perspective you have.  It is, after all, the right one.  You should seek out the thinkers at college.  You can, on any college campus, surround yourself with positive, hardworking, and brainy people.  They're out there and perhaps looking for you as well!

But when you go home and tell this to your mother, if she tells you,  that guy is a mad guy, because he faced an accident in his childhood, and having a brain damage, you may even feel sorry about him, isn't it?

So if somebody scold you or does something bad, just think he is mad/having a brain damage!!!!

most people just want to have as much fun as they can in life... i find it boring to always try to be smart and serious.....its fun to just act silly somtimes ya know. but i agree some people do act just to immature with no common sense...

Sorry that you re stuck in this place. I agree I find people mostly boring - like just free associating and my smile starts to feel plastered on, listening to long accounts of something boring going nowhere.

I don't know where you find interesting people I guess that depends upon your own interests. I found a lot of people I liked by joining a workers/housing co-op because we all had the same ideals - Later I did a counselling course and met some of my best friends now. Its taken me a long time though to meet unusual people who are out of the usual box. I still find 'normal' conversations agony.

Are there any societies at college which might have soem wackier people going to them?

I feel the same way about people.

I have found most of my friends on the internet. It sounds lame, but it is the best way I have found. I've met people in local chat rooms, or sites like okcupid.com and myspace.com ...

I particularly like okcupid.com because it matches you with people who think similarly.

You could also try going to events or gatherings that are for or have to do with the things you are into.

I don't have the problem as I go to a good college.  But, remember, your classmates are your competition.  Maybe it does suck that you can't becomes friends with them, but you will be at the top of your respective class at the end.  And, hence, make more money.  Average college students are intelligent, however.  Maybe you are studying a field that is below your intelligence?  I don't know.   I am smarter than most people I meet.  But, I find it to be nice, actually.  It's just tough to have conversations with idiots, I know.  But, find as many intelligent people as you can.  And, why not become friends with your professors?  Honestly, I study business and most of the professors are down to earth, fun, intelligent people with a lot of experience.  Get the most out of your experience by going to office hours.  Really, remember that you will need references in the future.  And, proffs with PH D's are pretty good references.
