I'm switching to Verizon Highspeed Internet [not fios] Is the modem that comes with it a router?

Also, what should i buy EXACTLY, if i want to hook my other computer to the network without connecting it to the router/modem?? wireless card at best buy or circuit city? and does it matter which one i get?? please answer, 10 pts for grabs

  2. Verizon has different options, you should find out from them what they are bringing you. If you do need to get a router I would go with something like this:

    If you are using cable to connect to the internet then your computers should be set and nothing more is needed (other than the cable) If you want to connect wirelessly then I would get something like this:

    802.11n is the newest, fastest wireless signal these days, you can get 802.11g for a little cheaper, but if you have to buy something you might as well get the newest.

  3. the modem from verizon is a wireless router/modem combo.  you can connect to it wireless but only has 1 ethernet (wired) connection.  to connect multiple systems wired you'd need a router.  Wireless you can connect direct to their modem/router.  

    If you don't have one already contact your computer vendor and see if they have internal wireless cards for your system, those are way better than the bulky cards that stick out the side.  If you want one from best buy Belkin and Dlink are good
