I was thinking of maybe focusing on something on the lines of realism depicting the hard times that people face. (I don't want my idea to be too complex.) I need to know if I'm on the right track. Suggestions are welcome.

  1. Hey there I took also AP art studio my senior year of high school. If you have enough ideas for the full 12 pieces then go for it. If you don't think you have ideas for that, then I recommend using a different idea. Something that isn't too repetitive but that is also functional. I think your idea of realism is good. Especially if you use different mediums everytime. AP judges like to see variety :) I think  you're fine with what you have, i'm sure there's plenty of hard times that people face. Something that you could bring up is the great depression, the stock market crash, something from that era.

Or, use some of that and use some of the current stuff like the 9/11 or war stuff. Look up some pictures and sketch out different ideas and see what you can do. Another thing I recommend is that you frame your final 5 pieces that you are going to be sending in so that they can see that you're professional and care about your artwork. Anyway, good luck!
