  1. DSL is much faster then Dialup. Usually if you take online classes and you use Dialup it can freeze up and it can ruin your class work. DSL is much quicker and it mostly required with online classes

  2. I have no idea. Maybe it would make more sense if you got in touch with your school and asked them why they say you must have DSL in order to do their class?!?

Personally, I have never even heard of DSL. Reading the above post though: is DSL an American term for what we call broadband???

  3. DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a technology for bringing high-bandwidth information to your home.

Online courses use video, etc to deliver content/course work.

Regular phone lines were created for voice, so they transmit only 56 Kbps of data - the data has to be changed from analog to digital using a modem.

DSL lines transmit 128 Kpbs - digital line with no change = more info and faster.

You will definitely have problems when taking an online course with a dial-up, as previously mentioned.

If you don't have DSL, you could go to your library and use their computers to take your course.

Then again, if you factor in gas prices these days, spending a little more for DSL may save you travel time and cost.
