Not including Brazil. We were thinking of hitting Peru, Chile, Argentina, maybe Uruguay. Open to suggestions.

  1. Uruguay is definitely a good spot. Safe, affordable, beautiful... Also Ecuador is very good for expats. Colombia could be an option too, there are good opportunities there. The International Living website gives a lot of info on living/retiring/investing in many countries around the world, especially in Latin America - www.internationalliving.com/countries

  2. I am particularly fond of Panama City, Panama and Bogota, Colombia. I love both countries. They are both modern and Bogota has been given a bad rap from the 80's.

I (a gringo) have lived here since 2001 and feel very safe here.

    enjoy

  3. I would recommend going to Ecuador as well. Ecuador has many beautiful things to see including the Galapago Islands. If you go to the capital, Quito, you can go to the middle of the world and walk on the equator. You can visit the tallest active volcanoe in the world, visit the jungle (Banos) or go to the gorgeous shore. The jungle tours are the best.
