I'm taking a trip this summer with my boyfriend to Mexico, and we don't know which city to go to...?

Question

Right now we're between 5 cities: Cancun, Cozumel, Cabo san Lucas, Playa del Carmen or Acapulco.

I would appreciate suggestions from people that had been to 2 or more of the cities so I can compare them.

I'm not looking at price as much but I do want an all-inclusive place and somewhere that's pretty safe.

I can say I have been to just a few.   Keep in mind the further you go, the more tropical.  Cancun, very very touristy.  Cozumel, simply awesome and a great dive spot too.  Acapulco, very nice.  Cozumel wins for me hands down because of landscape and water color.

First, Acapulco is NO a very good idea. It used to be great 30 years ago. That is unsafe, dirty and crowded.

Beeing in caribean sea is okay whatever the city; I mean, If you go to Cancún, Playa del Carmen or Cozumel, you WIL visit the other two. Playa del Carmen is the port to go to Cozumel island. I've been in Cancún, but next time I'll stay at Cozumel, really wonderful. There (at Quintana Roo state, in caribean sea) you can visit mayan ruins, tematic parks (as Xcaret or Xel-Ha), great night life, many things to do.

I have never gone to Cabo San Lucas. As far as I know it is great too (and safe and new), but remember that Cabo is located at the desertic Baja California, NOT tropical; and there were NO advanced civilizations in there (so, no ancient ruins).

Ive been in all of them i i would say Playa del carmen....theres more things 2 visit and so than in Cabo San Lucas, its much more beautiful than Acapulco and fron there u can easily go 2 Cancun (1 hr away) or cozumen (arround 40 mins by ferry). There r many all inclusive resorts, they r all good and its a safe city (juss b careful, as always, with open bars)....enjoy it!!!!

I would cross Acapulco from your list.  It was a popular places on the 60s but it is overpopulated, commercial and very polluted.

Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel are practically the same thing.  It is a beautiful area, great weather, beautiful water and tons of things to do.  You can stay in Playa del Carmen (there are plenty of hotels that are not inclusive), enjoy their beaches, restaurants, bars, shops and fun (like XCaret.)  You can take ferry to visit Cozumel for a day or take a comfortable bus ride to visit Cancun.  Cozumel has better diving spots and Cancun has bigger shopping centers and bigger clubs.

Have not been in Cabo San Lucas, but I hear is beautiful too.  They have better fishing than the Cancun area.  Water is clearer and more beautiful in Caribbean (i.e. Cancun) than the Pacific (around Cabo San Lucas)
