  1. It's a wise choice. If you feel you need time off or away, then go with what you feel !i

  2. I'm bipolar and I've chosen to take time off (a year at one point) from college to address my health. If I had forced myself instead of seeking care I'd probably be dead.

Take this time to seek help. Try to find a good therapist, and if you need to, get evaluated by a psychiatrist and start medication. Your life isn't ruined just because you won't graduate at 21. Trust me, plenty of people take longer than four years to get a bachelor's degree because common life problems get in the way. Rest up and don't be hard on yourself. Don't compare yourself to others. Just do what you need to to accomplish your goals.

I also highly recommend starting out at community college rather than a university because it's a less intense and stressful environment. You'll be guaranteed to live at home and have a reasonable commute, and the classes generally aren't as demanding. You will still be earning credits towards your degree.

So don't be hard on yourself, and DO look into getting help. Depression can be crippling but it's usually treatable.

  3. well I'm going thought depression and am fighting an eating disorder but I'm still going to school; partly because i have to it the law for under 16s. but if i had a choice i still will go due to the Meir fact it keeps you busy and doesn't leave you time to dwell on life.

go college plus you will not have to study for a year more.

  4. Not getting the help you need now to move forward with your life would be a bad decision.  Taking time off to get healthy and well adjusted is a smart decision as long as you are working towards a goal.  Find a counselor or social worker to talk to and start getting some help with your depression and stress.

    Good luck.

  5. It is one of the smartest things I have heard of. Taking a year off is a great idea. Why set yourself up for hardship and failure if you don't have to? When a person is struggling with an illness, being able to take a year off is a blessing. You do not have to spend the whole year being idle. There are other things you can do to keep busy and keep your mind sharp while you are recovering. (Exercise, journal, write stories, biking, gardening, redecorate your room, reorganize your house and closets, etc etc.)

Best wishes to you! You will be fine!

  6. It is a stressful process but it will become more stressful the longer you wait.

  7. If it takes less then a year or over a year you should deal with your depression problem first. Get some counseling....maybe you need anti depressant meds. Get that straightened out & then get to college so you can start your education with your 'boxing gloves on'.

    I wish you well.

  8. No I don't think it's completely stupid. You want to do well and if you don't think you would have done well with all your negative emotions and all you're doing the best you could. As long as you get help for you problems and prepare for your first year you'll be just fine.
