Group is 2 girls 14, 19, boys 14,15,16. Any ideas on cutting costs would also be appreciated. I have 4 days in the city to explore. Have you been to unusual restaurants? Side trips? ETc.

  1. Hi, I live in London, so I'll give you the inside scoop on what to do:

The London eye ( http://www.londoneye.com/ ), The London Dungeon is always fun (http://www.thedungeons.com/en/london-dun... ), especially for older kids. Madame Tussauds (wax museum) is fun (http://www.Madame-Tussauds.co.uk ), and The Tower of London (http://www.Hrp.org.uk ).

A really fun thing to do is a DUCK tour. Basically, you go on a bus around London, that turns into a boat, and then you go on the river and see things from there. (http://www.londonducktours.co.uk )

There are normally group discounts to most places, but I am not sure how many there needs to be to get a group discount.

As for shopping Oxford Street is great, loads of trendy shops like Top Shop/Top man ( http://www.topshop.com or http://www.topman.com), and others. For wacky souvenirs there are little booths on most corners with gift-y things, and for the craziest thing, I would recommend Camden Market ( http://www.camdenlock.net/ )

If you are interested in theatre tickets, it will be quite expensive to book online ahead of time, but if you want to, try Ticketmaster ( http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk ), or you are better off to pick up tickets at the discout ticket booths around London, and for a group of 6, you will easily be a ble to get tickets together, and much cheaper than online.

It is normally cheaper to go by rail. You can get group discounts from Days Out, and get lots of free coupons etc ( http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/ )

As for restaurants, there are 2 restaurant that I can think of that are wacky, and unusual. first is the Rainforest Café. (http://www.therainforestcafe.co.uk/ ), basically you have a meal in a mock rainforest, great fun!! The second is called Les Trois Garcons (http://www.lestroisgarcons.com/ ). Here is what the bio says:

[Adorned with stuffed animals, and a popular haunt for celebrities including Liz Hurley, Nicole Kidman, Graham Norton and Gwyneth Paltrow, Les Trois Garcons is a converted pub that serves drinks and dishes in an exquisite setting decorated with many antiquities. Catering for private parties of up to 16 guests in a private function room is available upon request. They also have themed and cabaret evenings as additional entertainment.]

Alot of the museums in London are free, so thats loads to do. Personally I would recommend the science museum ( http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk )

Hope That helps, nothing else I can think of, enjoy London while your there

  2. if you want to cut costs, you can often get discounts if you go by rail

most museums and art galleries are free, so worth stopping by (the tate modern is good, and the science museum's got lots of interesting things)

also, it's cheaper if you pick up oyster cards (available at any tube station) to travel around by london underground

if your teenagers like shopping, try oxford strees or camden (for the alternative). you can pick up discounted theatre tickets at stalls around the west end on the day if you want to take in a show

food-wise, there's restaurants everywhere! ed's diners are brilliant (american-style diners with great burgers)
