So it's the first week of school and i'm in 7th grade. My english teacher popped it on us that all 7th grade G/T students have to take the PSAT. Can someone fill me in on what the test is, and how to get a good score and anything else you can think of cause it's tommorow and i'm pretty nervous.

  1. Don't worry! It doesn't matter how you do on the test - it could just to see how you do, or give you an idea of the test. The only time the PSAT counts is when you take it your third year, or junior year, in high school.

It's a fairly easy test, but don't feel bad if the math or reading or writing trips you up. You'd be surprised to see how much you learn between seventh and eleventh grade, changing your view on the test completely!

Good luck, anyhow! You'll do fine, and even if you don't it wouldn't be expected for you to do well anyway.

  2. I took the test in 7th grade, and it was very difficult. Now, that doesn't mean worry about it. You can take the test as many times as you want. In fact, if this is even real, people like to see improvement on the scores, so it doesn't matter what you do now.

What you should focus on is tempo and the type of questions they ask. You won't know the math if it is a real PSAT. Oftentimes, not even the real high school students know it, so don't worry about it. Just figure out how fast you need to go to complete the test (a big part of it), and get comfortable.

Taking the test a few years before it is really important is great, because it gives you confidence. I found that I did fairly well last year when I took it again, and didn't stress at all coming into the next test, because I knew that even if I did poorly, I'd have a good test score already. I did amazing, and now I don't have to worry about next year's test, the one that really matters to everyone else.

So really, don't worry. It won't count for a grade, probably, and it will just be to get you ready. It might not even be the real PSAT!

  3. chances are its not the high school test. i took the actual SAT in 8th grade about 6 years ago but that was legit. its just like any other standardized test but the questions are typically harder in order to prepare you for the SAT. theres no way to study well so just get rest and be focused. a good calculator helps a good deal as well. just be ready and remember that it doesnt count for anything so take it as a practice to familiarize yourself for standardized testing.....youll be taking many.....good luck.

  4. You probably aren't taking the PSAT that everyone in high school takes, so don't let that freak you out. You just need to relax when you take the test.  It is not something you can study for - you just need to calmly and rationally think about each question.
