And the class has to turn in rough copies of their articles in tomorrow. During this time the editors and section editors will look over and revise the articles for any problems. While me and the rest of the editors do this, the writers(the class) will not be doing a whole lot.

I really have no idea what i'll have them do, and i dont want them just sitting around... doing nothing. Any ideas that will be realistic for them to do?

Even if its something ridiculous for them to just 'waste time'...

  1. Have them work on lists for possible future articles, improvements the paper can make, or begin writing out rough drafts for the next paper.  They can begin working silently then brainstorm as a group.  If you have old copies of the schools newspaper you can have the students read and critique them.

  2. I have been on a newspaper at my local community college before and I had a great experience.

How about giving them research on current events?  Let them learn from the local paper.  How did the reporters write their news?

    Or

Have the students interview each other and let them write a profile of who they are, what their goals are, their family life, and their interests.  You can include pictures and stuff.  Let them get creative.  (you don't have to publish it in the paper just to give the students some fun learning from each other and practice their writing).

    Hope that helps!
