Question:

I'm terrified my lovebird's going to die!?

Okay, so I got a lovebird recently, and he's been drinking out of a tube water bottle kind of thing before I got him...

It's like the kind of thing a hamster drinks out of, with the tube and the seemingly upside down bottle and everything.

Here's a pic if you still don't get what I mean: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754658

But I've only got those cups that look like these: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754283

Is this alright? Should I expect him to drink from these even though he's never actually drank from them before? You see, I fill them up with water a couple of times a day, and I am wondering, will he recognize that it's water?

Yes, he is the store-bought-untame kind, I'm sorry, that is completely my fault, but please don't take out your lectures on me, I really don't need it.

And please do not tell me to just "get a bottle waterer". I'm sure it'll be much too late before I'm able to do that.

Thank so, so much!

  1. I use these types of water tubes in a few of my bird cages too.  Your bird will probably figure it out.  Birds need a bowl of water to bathe in too.  I put the drinking tube in cages that the birds take many bathes and always make their water dirty.  They bathe in the bowl and drink from the tube.

  2. He should be just fine.  Bowls are actually better for birds anyways, just make sure it stays clean.  Just watch him, I'm sure he'll figure it out.

  3. it wont die he probably just needs to get used to it, i did the same thing when i had a bird. hold him and the water let your bird get used to the fact that its water. he wont die if your uncomftable then bye him the other water thing

  4. you need to keep both especially if the bird likes baths. and for the water bottle hamster thingy i would say leave it in or get one, it actually stays cleaner than the little bowls do ( you know cause they cant throw stuff in it or like p**p in it) either way i don't think your bird will just die. but if it shows any sign of getting sick contact the vet

    good luck

  5. I would suggest putting both waterers in the cage with him So if you want him to get used to drinin out then watching to see which one he drinks out of Plus the water doesnt need to be treated Im sure h**l drink it with no problems But if you want him to get used to drinking out of the bowl rather than the water bottle I would slowly introduce it to him by doing what i said earlier

  6. Well, I don't really know know stuff about taking care of birds BUT to my knowledge. Maybe the bird can get used to the cup it's drinking out of.

    Don't you think?

Try taking him to the Vet.

    Good Luck

    And always think positive :D
