I'm the beneficiary for my deceased father's pension. What happens now? ?

  1. Request the Pension Office to transfer the benefits of your father to you but present the death certificate of your fathher and you birth certificate to prove filiation.




  2. You should be able to get your father's social security number.  You will need that anyway to complete his final tax return.

    Nothing can happen until they are notified that he is dead.

    It is in their best interest to learn this since it's likely the survivor benefit to you is less than your father's benefit and certainly they should prefer to pay you the smaller benefit than have you cash his bigger check.
