From a lawyer.  First, mediation is not arbitration.  Mediation is usually court ordered but only involves the two parties getting together and trying to work out a settlement.  If they can't agree, the case goes to trial.  The mediator is chosen by agreement between the parties or by order of the court if they cannot agree.  Some courts just order a mediator and no choice is given.  It can last a few hours or all day long, into the night.  The always start of with very low offers and the amounts go up slowly during the day to very fast the last hour.  You really need a lawyer who is experienced in handling one of these.  I can promise you that you will feel like walking out after the first half hour, but don't do it.  Just play the game.
